I spoke at Beth Messiah Congregation today on how to pray from the books of the Prophets in the Old Testament (OT). Because we're in a new season with extreme hardship (and judgments) on the horizon, we need to pray differently. I think the OT prophets can be helpful. You certainly can't miss when you're praying Scripture!
Yes, the prophets addressed Israel, Judah and even their enemies. But Israel serves as an example of any nation that turns from God. America (or your nation) is no different, so we can use the prophets' words for today.
I mark verses in my Bible for each prophet this way:
A for admonition: things God tells us to do (i.e., Micah 2:6, 6:8)
D for declaration: great verses that are positive truths (i.e., Micah 7:8)
P for promise: God's promises for the righteous in the midst of judgment
Pr for prayer: prayers the prophets crafted that we can pray too (see Micah 7:14)
S for sin: this provides a list of specific sins we as a nation need to repent for
G for God: verses that say what God will do (i.e., I will consume, punish, cut off, etc.) I've marked these verses because so many people think God is only a God of love and not one of judgment. But He makes it clear; He judges because of OUR sin.
