NOTE FROM AUTHOR:
I think it’s always been difficult for Christian parents to reconcile Santa with the biblical story of Christmas. Two things gave me the idea for a possible way to do that. Both took place in the 1980s. My hobby was ceramics. One year I made a large nativity scene of 12” figures, white with blue-washed accents. A year or two later, I was delighted to find a kneeling Santa, painted him red, and added him to the nativity. It put Santa in the proper perspective for my three young children.
Later, my husband and I put together a Christmas musical for our church. I wrote the script and he added the music. At the very end, after all the shepherds and wise men were in place before the manger, we had Santa, with his big pack of toys on his back, walk down the aisle and kneel before the manger. It was very dramatic and again demonstrated that Jesus was to be honored above Santa.
